06th April 2021 - BBA Committee Meeting

The BBA Committee held a meeting via zoom today, the main points being;

League Schedule

The BBA league will start on the 18th May. Ian Brown (Kings Heath) is finalising the league programs which will be distributed as soon as possible. Leagues will be played in the traditional format but the program ensures only one team to be playing at any one club at a time to limit numbers on the green. No food to be provided at league games this season however you can stay for drinks if guidelines permit at the time.

Competition Schedule

Paul Finch (Sherwood Park) will shortly be distributing competition entry forms to club secretaries. Clubs will be invited to put their green forward as hosts for semi-finals. All comps will be run on the traditional number of end/woods and will not follow the temporary changes at national level. Provision of food will be at the discretion of the home player(s), guidelines permitting.

16th March 2021 - BBA Executive Meeting

The BBA executive held a meeting via zoom today and agreed on the following points regarding the season start-up;

League schedule

  • The preferred option is to have a full league season, if possible

  • This will be determined by;

a) The number of teams that will be entered for the season

b) The Bowls England announcement on bowls startup which is expected by 29 March 2021. This will clarify the rules regarding the start dates / numbers of bowlers allowed on the rink

Ian Brown (Kings Heath) has agreed to take on the league secretary role for this season. He will be contacting all clubs to ascertain details of their intended BBA league entries / any known restrictions on start dates. Can all clubs please respond to Ian asap.

The committee plans to meet again on 06/04/21 where hopefully we will be able to decide on the league schedule.

Competition secretary

Chris Wright (Solihull Municipal) has had to relinquish the role for this year. Paul Finch (Sherwood Park) has agreed to take on the role temporarily. Clubs will be contacted in the normal way to request details of the club/individual competition entries for the forthcoming season.

League Secretary

This position remains vacant. Can clubs please canvass their members for anyone willing to take on this role.

10th March 2021 - Season Update

The recently announced roadmap for the easing of lockdown restrictions enables associations to prepare for the 2021 season. Our overriding objective remains the safe return to bowls during the year.

The BBA executive is currently discussing the options to provide a way forward for the season. As part of this, we will be guided by the 'Return to Play' guidance expected from the government via DCMS by Monday 29th March.

We understand there will be a range of questions and we ask people to bear with us as we work through the various options. More information will be issued on the BBA website as soon as we can.

If clubs have any suggestions please contact us via email.

There are a number of BBA officer positions vacant including Secretary and League Secretary. If anyone would be interested in filling either of these positions please contact us.

BBA Exec.

20th February 2021

The BBA is saddened to hear that Alan Webb (Tamworth) recently passed away. Alan was instrumental in bringing the sport of flat green bowls to Tamworth. As well as being both president and treasurer of the Birmingham Bowls Association, Alan also served as a representative on the County Executive in the early 2000s. Our thoughts go to his family and friends at this time.

15th February 2021

The BBA has been informed that Past President Colin Perkins (Blossomfield) has died aged 83. As well as being County President in 2004 Colin has also been Chairman of the Vice President's and was a well known and respected person among the bowls community. Our thoughts go out to his wife, family and friends at the difficult time.
